All the best events and activities in Bridgeport, WV
Oct 5–11, 2026 · Issue #11
Hello, neighbors! The first full week of October is here, and it smells like apple butter. Salem's festival turns 40 this week, the farm patches and corn mazes are hitting their stride, and the Associated Businesses of Bridgeport scarecrows are starting to pop up along Main Street. It's also the last regular Sunday of the season for BFM2 at Charles Pointe, so plan one more market morning while you can.
Monday also kicks off Freedom Day USA week, with free dental care and deals for military families and veterans. Grab a cider, pick a few favorites below, and enjoy the week.
Plans change fast this time of year (heads up: the Robinson Grand's Linger: The Cranberries Tribute on Oct 8 has been canceled, with automatic refunds). Please confirm times and details with each organizer before you head out.

40th Salem Apple Butter Festival, October 7-10, 2026 in Salem, WV
40th Salem Apple Butter Festival
Wed, Oct 7 – Sat, Oct 10 · Downtown Salem (Main St & Pavilion Stage) · Free admission
Forty years of copper kettles over wood fires, and it's only about 15 minutes out US-50 from Bridgeport. Booths open at 5 PM Wednesday with the Fireman's Parade, a pet parade and the apple pie eating contest, followed by country comedian Cledus T. Judd at 7:30 PM. Thursday brings the pageants and the quilt show at the Armory, Friday has the Hillbilly Highway Band and Little Mania Wrestling (7 PM), and Saturday is the big one: booths at 10 AM, a kids' water balloon war at 11 AM, and the Festival/Salem University Homecoming Parade down Main Street at noon. Insider tip: buy your apple butter early in the day, before the jars made on the spot sell out, and grab on-street parking or an area lot well before the parade. The whole festival is free and drug- and alcohol-free, so bring the kids.
