Sept 7-13, 2026 · Issue #07Summer's unofficial last call is Monday. Labor Day closes the schools and closes the city pool for the year, and from there the calendar belongs to Friday night football and weeknight soccer, whatever the equinox says about summer having two more weeks in it. Take the holiday slow while you can, because the back half of this week does not leave much room.
Friday is the 25th anniversary of September 11, and Bridgeport marks it at the country club with a veterans ceremony, a check presentation and a Vietnam-era helicopter coming in over the fairway. From there the weekend stacks up fast: the 25th West Virginia Black Heritage Festival fills downtown Clarksburg for three days, a Greek food festival runs all Friday afternoon, the Indians are home under the lights, and the farmers market has only four Sundays left outdoors.
Heads up: Dates, times and ticket prices can change after we hit send, and rain moves things around this time of year. Always confirm the details with the organizer before you head out.

Mountaineer Heroes of Honor Ceremony

Twenty-five years to the day after September 11, the Mountaineer Heroes of Honor Foundation holds its 7th annual ceremony and charity golf event at Bridgeport Country Club. The morning opens with a public ceremony honoring local veterans and presenting more than $60,000 in checks to veteran support organizations, punctuated by a Vietnam-era helicopter landing on the course. The golf tournament that follows is the fundraiser itself, with a goal of $150,000 for this year's recipients.

Monday is it - the pool closes for the season once Labor Day is over. If you have been meaning to get one more afternoon in, this is the last one until next summer. West Virginia Black Heritage Festival Opens

Day one of the 25th annual festival, with the Frank Starks Golf Tournament at Bel Meadow and a 3-on-3 basketball tournament getting things started. The festival itself is free and runs all three days downtown, building toward Saturday's full slate of live music.

Black Heritage Festival Main Day

The biggest single day of the region's calendar this weekend. Opening ceremonies at noon, then live music straight through: the WVU Jazz Band at 1:15, the Balafon West African Dance Ensemble, Lady D, tribute sets honoring the Four Tops, Stephanie Mills and Mary J. Blige, and Byron Cooper with Flight 66 closing at 10 p.m. Vendors, food and kids' activities all day, and admission is free. Park a few blocks out and walk in, since Fourth Street is closed for construction.
